About Me

Updated: Oct 13, 2019

My name is Latoya "Toya" Settles AKA T-Money, my rap alter ego (in my head), and before you ask, no I can not rap. I'm a twenty-six years old black girl living on Long Island, and here are some facts about me:

I come from a family of eight, yes EIGHT, and I'm the second youngest, so I grew up *a bit* spoiled. My parents are both from the south, making me a "southern" black American.

I am 5 foot 1 1/2 (that 1/2 inch matters a lot to me) and 196 pounds. I'm telling you all this because I've struggled with my weight my entire adult life, especially recently, but I'll get into that a little later...

As far as work, I am a Social Media Manager at a small online marketing company. Sounds fancy, right? It's not lol. I run social media accounts for a bunch of small businesses around Long Island. So basically, I work my ass off to give business owners an online presence that will hopefully turn into business leads.

I have wonderful friends, especially a best friend I'm sure you'll hear a lot about (Hey Ash), and an amazing boyfriend. We've been in a relationship for the last year and a half, making this my longest/healthiest adult relationship.

I've been in two 1/2 serious relationships (this is my third) and way too many situationships than I'd like to admit, but who hasn't? I've been in love, and lust, with some really great people and some not so great people. I have been heartbroken twice and disappointed more times than I can count, but that's life.

I have been participating in therapy on and off for several years, but only recently have I taken it seriously. I'm struggling through my issues with my girl, Vanessa, who I found on (thanks Kristen!).

I've been a yogi for about 3 years, which has kept me sane. (If you need some sanity, hit me up for a yoga class, I need a workout buddy). Between therapy and yoga, I can feel myself glowing!

I am a proud, self-proclaimed #feminist and yes, I will call you out on any women-hating/slut-shaming, so PLEASE don't bring any of that here.

I am spiritual with a belief in God. I was a witch in another life. Pisces. Moon Goddess, Pro-Choice, Anti Guns, book nerd.

OK, I'm done talking about myself for now (thank god). I don't know why you'd want to know more about me, but IF you do, subscribe to my blog!

Follow me on IG @ms_lsettles, where I will be asking questions for future blog topics!

My name is Latoya, and like this blog, I am a work in progress. *So please be patient with me.*

Surviving: My Twenties was created as a way for me to share my story. The struggles, the insecurities, the love (and heartbreak), and everything else in between. My hope for this blog is to empower women (and men) to tell their stories and encourage people to live in their truth, as I'm trying to live in mine.

I read somewhere that you find inner peace when you face your challenges instead of running away from them. So here I am,  trying like hell to find and keep some inner peace.
